The Ring and Thematic Usage of Motifs
crossposted from discord."grabbing you by the shoulders. the way the ring has no shortage of motifs and recurring imagery and so you're stuck in the same recurring loop with one more fly and one more Jesus allegory and one more pool of water and one more circle. and then another"
"I can't believe I had this thought in my review and then forgot until I reread it but . thinking about how motifs also mimic the aspect of the curse that's seeing the imagery from the tape everywhere you go. "before you die, you see the ring" yeah I see it on Rachel's tank top and in her lamp and her shower drain and the coffee stain on Noah's newspaper and and and.... yes the water and the flies are in the video but more importantly they're Outside The Video which when combined w the previous fact is So Fucking Cool"

"I'm thinking. Rachel covers the well and walks away. a few seconds after she leaves the frame we see the cover move just a little bit. when she's following Aidan's voice she starts to hear sticks crack and realizes she's being followed and starts to run. she and Samara realize at the same time that jumping off the cliff will let them out and samara will be able to possess Aidan again. samara runs to the edge of the cliff and Rachel follows and catches her by the back of her gown just in time. she realizes that Samara isn't going to stop until she has a mother and is like fine. take me but don't hurt my son. she calls out to Aidan to apologize and tell him she loves him but that she needs to do this. and is like "say hi to Aunt Ruthie" so like. implying that she'd be taking care of him. and then Samara transports them to the bottom of the well and Rachel reluctantly hugs her. final shot is Samara's nailless hands digging into her back."
