HALF-DROWNED HOUND

The Ring: Terror's Realm

Jesus Christ, man.

I suppose I did know what I was getting into - I'd already suspected that it wouldn't be particularly good, and a quick glance at the ratings confirmed it - but like ... this is maybe the worst time I've ever had playing (well, watching) a video game. Screw that ET game, this should be the game they buried because it was impossible to sell. Still, I said I'd review it, so watch it I did.

I will give it some credit - the opening movie thing was kinda fun, and the score, while repetitive and underutilized, was pretty good in a vacuum. It also raised the genuinely interesting concept of memory loss and general confusion when entering a virtual world due to interference from the person running it; if it were just a psychological/sci-fi horror thing, the story might actually be kinda good.

Other than that, though, it's essentially just Resident Evil 1 if Resident Evil 1 sucked shit. Literally, if you got rid of some of the cutscenes, it would be indiscernible from a Resi game. People turning into weird monsters because of a virus; a boss battle with a power-hungry scientist who turns into a monster because of said virus - which he was using to 'improve the human race' - after an Evil Monologue ... Give me a break.

The voice acting was ... abysmal, truly. The dialogue was stilted - barely any of it sounded like the way an actual human person would talk. Sometimes the translation was so bad that there were sentences that were completely meaningless. (Also, the main voice actress did not know how to pronounce Sadako, and I guess nobody bothered to correct her, lmao.)

It's honestly kinda demoralizing to talk at length about this game. To be honest, I'm already tired of it after four paragraphs, so, uh, I dunno, don't play this game, I guess.
